Service for Pentecost Sunday – 5th June 2022

Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth

Welcome to St. Paul’s Athens especially if you are here for the first time or visiting Athens.  We have a POS facility so you can make a donation by card. There is coffee in the garden after the Liturgy. The newly published church history and guide book ‘Opening Doors’ will be on sale from this morning – €10,00. You can use the POS to purchase this as well as cash.

The presiding priest and preacher this morning is The Revd. Canon Leonard Doolan. The deacon is the Revd. Christine Saccali. We welcome HE Matthew Lodge, British Ambassador, and Mrs. Alexia Lodge.

I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service… But I shall not have strength to carry out this resolution alone unless you join in it with me, as I now invite you to do: I know that your support will be unfailingly given. God help me to make good my vow, and God bless all of you who are willing to share in it.

Princess Elizabeth, 21 April 1947

When I spoke to you last… I asked you all, whatever your religion, to pray for me on the day of my Coronation – to pray that God would give me wisdom and strength to carry out the promises that I should then be making… I have been uplifted and sustained by the knowledge that your thoughts and prayers were with me.

Her Majesty the Queen, Coronation Day, 2 June 1953

Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed.

We have not loved you with our whole heart.

We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves.

In your mercy forgive what we have been,

Help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be;

That we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God.

Amen.

Absolution: May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.   Amen.
