“Female heroes. Of love and of death”

An evening of opera and verse will take place at St. Paul’s Church, Philellinon 27 and Amalias Avenue, on the 30th January at 8:30pm. Organised by specs ‘n’ arts, the entrance fee is € 12 (students € 10). Tickets are also available online via, or by calling 210.723.45.67.

Soprano Gina Fotinopoulou and tenor Antonis Koroneos will be accompanied on the piano by Maria Neofytidou in a recital titled “Female heroes. Of love and of death”. The programme combines arias and duets from well-loved operas, such as Madama Butterfly, Norma, Gioconda, Tosca, Manon Lescaut, La Bohème and La Τraviatta, interspersed with love poems by Greek poets Maria Polydouri, Odysseas Elytis, Constantine Kavafis and Kostas Karyotakis. Fragile women in love and strong female personalities mingle in this repertoire based on unrequited love and its tragic “end”, whether voluntarily chosen or appearing unexpectedly.
